Undergraduate Research and Creative Works Travel Awards

Undergraduate Research and Creative Works Travel Awards (UTA) enable Southwestern undergraduates to enhance their professional development and network with thought leaders in their fields.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Works Travel Awards (UTA) gives students the opportunity to disseminate the research they have conducted.  Travel applications are being accepted throughout the academic school year.   The student needs to complete the UTA application for approval.  Please review the 23-24 Guidelines  before submitting the application.

Unlike in the previous Fleming or Sarofim awards process, students do not apply on
their own. Rather, the faculty or staff mentor must complete the application on their
behalf, even if the mentor is not planning to travel with their student. Faculty and staff
need only submit one application per conference/travel opportunity, regardless of how
many students will attend (faculty may support more than one student).

Faculty and staff may apply prior to receiving formal confirmation of acceptance to a
conference or other opportunity, but must show proof of participation with the Dean’s
Office.

Every student at Southwestern University engages in research and creative projects, whether it’s writing a literature review for a final sociology essay or designing a theatrical performance for a capstone course. But undergraduate research goes well beyond the classroom…

  • Off-Campus Research Opportunities

SU students network with scholars and undergraduates from across the nation to gain research experience in the archives, at the bench, and in the field.
