Schedule of Events

Sprog Orientation will be held in 3 sessions. You will select from Sprog I (June 14 & 15), Sprog II (June 17 & 18), or Sprog III (June 20 & 21). The schedule is the same for all Sprog sessions.

Student Schedule Day One

9:45 a.m.

Student Check in (Prothro Atrium)

Your room is ready for you, (not that you’ll be spending much time there)! At check-in, you will receive your room key and Pirate swag. Then, drop off your luggage in your room, so you can set sail on your Sprog voyage.

9:45-10:00 a.m.

Meet Your Fellow Pirates! (First-Year Courtyard)

Your Pirate adventure starts here! Kick off your Sprog experience with 150 of your new best mates. Remember: everyone is in the same boat! Engage in fun activities that will help you quickly make new friends, before heading to the first session.

10:00-10:45 a.m.

First Gathering with your Orientation Leader (Various Locations)

You could potentially meet your new best friend at this session! Your Orientation Leader will guide you through interactive activities that will introduce you to your Sprog cohort and prepare you for the days to come. Walk with your orientation leader to the appropriate location below (will be in final version)

11:00 a.m
- Noon

1:30 p.m.

Welcome & Shaping Your SU Experience (Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center)

University staff will welcome incoming students and parents to SU. Dr. Jennifer Leach, Director of Advising and Retention, will share information about Southwestern’s unique curriculum and how your student can get the most out of their advising experience at Sprog.

Lunch (Commons and Bishops Lounge
You will have the opportunity to have lunch with and get to know your Maiden Voyageteam.

1:30-2:15 p.m.

Understanding the Curriculum with Advisors and OLs (various locations)

Academic Advisors will help you get your sea-legs and dive into the University’s curriculum in preparation for your course registration process.


3:45 p.m.

Maiden Voyage (Robertson Center)

Embark on your maiden voyage via a good ‘ol fashioned field day–Pirate style! Join your Sprog group as you compete in friendly competition with a series of upbeat interactions and games sure to shiver your timbers! Don’t worry; no one has to walk the plank.

3:45-4:00 p.m.


4:00-4:45 p.m.

Ask Anything! Student Panel with Orientation Leaders (Olin 110 and Olin 105)

In this students-only session, no question is off limits! Connect with current students, and get the inside scoop on the daily life of a Southwestern Pirate.


4:45-5:15 p.m.

Know Your Berth (Olin 110 and Olin 105)

What’s a berth, you may ask? The sleeping quarters on a ship are called a berth. Learn how you sign up for your room and provide roommate preferences. Also, you’ll learn what you can bring to your berth to make it your new home!


5:15-6:00 p.m.


6:00-6:30 p.m.

Day 1 Wrap up with Orientation Leaders

Join your Orientation Leader for a quick check in to reflect on your day and prepare for Day 2 of Sprog.

8:00 p.m.

Find My Friends Dinner (Bishops Lounge)

Finding community is an essential part of finding your home at SU. This dinner will allow you to connect with fellow Pirates with common interests and expand your circle of friends!

10:00 p.m.

Nightlife @ SU (Corbin J. Robertson Center)

There’s always something fun happening on campus! Get a taste of nightlife at SU, and choose your own adventure — Laser tag and a scavenger hunt in the Robertson Center, Monsters, Inc.and trivia in Clark Lounge, and arts & crafts in Mabee Atrium. There will be lots of chances to win great prizes!

Student Schedule Day Two

9:00 a.m.

Residence Hall Checkout

Students will be checking out between 8-9 a.m., and will need to connect with you to load their overnight bag into your car.

8:00-9:00 a.m.

Breakfast in the Commons

9:45 a.m.

Panel with the Professors (Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center)

Faculty will answer questions about curriculum, selecting majors and minors, and high impact experiences available through their departments.

11:00 a.m.

Residence Hall Tours (Departs from the Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center)

Residence hall tours are specifically designed for those new Pirates and their parents wishing to explore their housing options. Staff will be available to answer questions related to each residence hall.

11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.

Billing, Payments, and Financial Aid, Oh My! (Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center)

This information session covers billing and payments, waivers, financial aid, and how to access your student’s financial information.

1:30 p.m.

Lunch with Orientation Leader (Bishops Lounge)

2:30 p.m.

Group Advising (Various locations)

You will meet with your first-year advisor who will help you navigate through degree programs, fall courses, and ways to get involved.

2:45-4:00 p.m.


Course Registration (Fondren-Jones Computer Labs)

Now that your Pirate training is complete, you’re almost at your destination! Our helpful team of advisors and other staff will assist you in registering for your classes. Make sure to print out your first semester class schedule before leaving!
