Southwestern University requires students to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for all forms of need-based financial aid.
FAFSA General Information
The FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal, state, and institutional need based aid. Students must submit a FAFSA each year they wish to be considered for need-based financial aid. An academic year for financial aid is Fall, Spring and Summer. The FAFSA application becomes available every year on October 1st.
Completing the FAFSA
Step 1: Go to Studentaid.gov
Step 2: Create a separate account (FSA ID) for both student and parent
Step 3: Fill out the FAFSA application
Step 4: When prompted use the Data Retrieval Tool (have tax return available for reference)
Step 5: Sign and submit your FAFSA (will require both student’s and parent’s signature)

First Year Early Decision Applicants: | December 1 |
First Year Early Action and Regular Decision Applicants: | March 1 |
First Year Late Decision Applicants: | ASAP after March 1 |
Transfer Applicants - Fall: | July 1 |
Transfer Applicants - Spring: | November 15 |
Current and Readmitted SU Students - Priority Deadline: | March 1 |
