Academic Success

Meet the Peer Academic Mentors

The Peer Academic Mentors (PAMs) are upper-level students who work to provide academic counseling to those wishing to enhance their study skills as well as those who are struggling academically.

What We Do

Mentors are a source of academic support for fellow students throughout their time at SU. We work with students to develop effective study skills and strategies on an individual basis, design and facilitate academic skills workshops, aid students in the registration process, introduce students to academic support services, and guide students through short- and long-term planning.

Been there, done that:

The best thing about Peer Mentors is that we’re students just like you! As upper-level students we have experiences both in and out of the classroom that directly relate to whatever you are struggling with. We welcome your questions and concerns, and we will do everything we can to get you the help you need!

Hi! My name is Xavier and I am from Mission, TX! At Southwestern, I am a member of the Peer Mentors. Some advice I can give to incoming SU students is to not worry about learning the Alma Mater, it took me a few times too! A quote I love is: “Be yourself. All the time.”

Hi! My name is Evan and I am from Colleyville, Texas. At Southwestern, I am a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, 3 Year Varsity Basketball, Art Association, and Peer Mentors. My favorite Southwestern tradition is the “couching” of basketball games. The fraternities will bring their couches courtside to watch the games and its nice because you are right on the court, in front of all the action, while enjoying the comfort of your own home. A fun fact about me is that my full name is Isham Evan Orion Kimbell VI, I am the 6th of my name which I think is pretty cool.

Evan Alexander

Math and Economics Major

Hi! My name is Evan and I am from Waco, Texas. At Southwestern, I am in Mask & Wig, Phonathon, Economics Club, and Peer Mentors. What I like about Southwestern is how well Greek Life is integrated into the rest of campus life. I’m not in a fraternity, but I am good friends with many members and it doesn’t feel like they’re exclusive or cliques. An interesting fact about me is that I do card magic and artistry.
