Slyvia Kerrigan Sylvia Kerrigan is the Executive Director of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Energy Center for Business, Law and Policy at The University of Texas-Austin. She is the Lead Director and Corporate Governance and Nominations Committee Chair for Team Industrial Services Inc. and a member of the board of directors for Diversified Energy Company PLC. She is the past chairman of the international law section of the State Bar of Texas and a life fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation. She has served on the boards of various corporate and professional organizations, including the American Leadership Forum, Nine Point Energy, and Alta Messa Resources. 

Ms. Kerrigan retired as the executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Marathon Oil Corporation in 2017.  During her 22-year career at Marathon, Ms. Kerrigan was entrusted with a number of responsibilities in addition to her legal duties, including information security and privacy, compliance, and business integrity, public policy and government affairs, environmental, social and governance matters, and corporate communications.  Ms. Kerrigan worked for two years in Geneva, Switzerland, at the United Nations Security Council’s Commission d’Indemnisation, where she served as the senior legal officer and team leader responsible for arbitrating the losses sustained by international energy companies following Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait.  During her five years as a lawyer in private practice, she counseled energy, construction, manufacturing, and transportation clients on complex commercial, international, and insurance matters.

Sylvia graduated cum laude from Southwestern with a degree in philosophy, political economy, and English in 1986. At Southwestern, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta.  She received her law degree from The University of Texas in 1990. She formerly was a member of Southwestern’s board of visitors. Sylvia was elected vice chair of the Southwestern Board of Trustees effective July 1, 2022.
