Slyvia Kerrigan

Sylvia Kerrigan is Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Oxy.

Ms. Kerrigan has over a decade of experience in the board room as a director and executive in the industrial, transportation, energy and retail sectors. In addition to leadership roles at multiple capital-intensive enterprises, Ms. Kerrigan’s board expertise includes environmental, social and governance (ESG), risk management, regulatory, cybersecurity, and information governance and privacy. She’s worked directly on mergers, acquisitions, corporate strategy, C suite succession, shareholder activism and recapitalization in multiple settings. Ms. Kerrigan currently serves as the Chief Legal Officer for Occidental Petroleum Corp (NYSE: OXY); and as a Director for Diversified Energy Company (FTSE: DEC) and Hornbeck Offshore Services (privately held). Previously, Ms. Kerrigan served as Lead Director for Team Industrial Services (NYSE: TISI), where she chaired the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee and served on the Compensation Committee. She also served on the board of Alta Mesa Resources (formerly NASDAQ: AMR), where she sat on the Audit and Compensation Committees and chaired the board of AMR’s Kingfisher Midstream subsidiary. She also served on the board of Nine Point Energy (Private Equity-backed), where she chaired the Audit & Finance Committee and sat on the Compensation Committee.

Ms. Kerrigan retired from her role as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO) in 2017. While at Marathon, she sat on the Executive Committee and was responsible for state, federal and international public policy matters, legal and compliance functions, and external communications. She was central to the company’s corporate positioning, including a spin-off of the refining, transportation and retail assets in 2011, and a subsequent recasting of corporate culture and capital allocation. She worked closely with the board on major M&A, shareholder outreach, corporate policy and disclosures, and numerous other issues. Ms. Kerrigan’s prior experience also includes an appointment to the United Nations Security Council’s Commission d’Indemnisation in Geneva, Switzerland, where she led an interdisciplinary team responsible for evaluating material losses sustained by international businesses operating in the Middle East. She also previously served as the Executive Director of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Energy, Law and Business at the University of Texas. In private practice, Ms. Kerrigan focused on complex litigation for manufacturing, maritime, engineering and construction clients. While studying at the University of Texas, she worked as a law clerk for the Texas Supreme Court.

Ms. Kerrigan currently serves as Vice-Chair for Southwestern University’s Board of Trustees, where she chairs the Trusteeship Committee and sits on the Executive Committee. Ms. Kerrigan graduated cum laude from Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Political Economy and English, and received her Juris Doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law. The University of Texas presented Ms. Kerrigan with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, and Southwestern University honored her with its Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018. Ms. Kerrigan is a dual citizen of the United States and Brazil.
