Debby Ellis Writing Center
Hi! I’m Paresa and I’m a senior here at Southwestern majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Sociology and History. Despite always being told that I was a ‘good’ writer, I really struggled with written assignments throughout high school and my first few years in college. Writing academic essays and research papers felt like the biggest burden to me, and I dreaded having to sit down and force myself to produce a piece of work that I could be proud of (no matter how long it took me).
While I sometimes still experience these writing anxieties, I feel like I have come a long way since I first started writing for college courses. My professors and their constant encouragement and feedback have played a huge role in my overall development as a writer, and I can’t stress enough the importance of fostering meaningful relationships with your professors while in college. I understand the stress and insecurity that can come with expressing one’s ideas on paper, and I want to help others overcome these hardships in order to become more confident in their own writing abilities. I’m so excited to collaborate with my fellow SU students in the DEWC and look forward to learning from everyone that drops in for a writing consultation!
When I’m not working in the writing center or going to classes, I enjoy cooking, reading historical fiction and non-fiction, and hanging out with my kitty Ollie who lives with me on campus.
