Assistant Director of Admission
What would be your advice to prospective students about the college search?
Before starting your college search, think about the top 3 things you would like to walk away from your college experience with and let those guide you as you begin to explore different campuses & their opportunities.
Why should students attend Southwestern? To engage in an educational experience that is designed by you! The possibilities are endless and opportunities to explore a classical liberal arts education are at your fingertips. Here, you will engage in dynamic discussions with your faculty and classmates and go beyond the reading. You will learn to make connections across your courses and gain skills that will serve you for a lifetime.
What are your favorite restaurants in Georgetown and why? I have a huge sweet tooth, so the 18K Bakery on the square is a must! Their coconut cream pie and lemon-blueberry cake are divine! I also love Gumbo’s on the square as well for their outstanding cajun cooking and live music.
What is your favorite thing to do in Georgetown and why? I love to go antique-ing with my husband to explore all of the shops and discover what our next creative home-improvement project will be (e.g., finding unique items to turn into lamps or lighting). We also love walking around the square to visit all of the unique shops and seeing local artisan creations.
What are your favorite restaurants in Austin and why? One of my favorite restaurants in Austin is Hyde Park Bar & Grill. They have an eclectic setting with local art displays paired with a comfort food-filled menu. Their fries & secret sauce are incredible. Plus, my parents went on their first date there, so it has a special place in my heart there as well. I also love great places that invite great conversation and closeness. Chez Zee is a cute Austin classic that has something for everyone. Once again, my sweet tooth often guides my restaurant choices and their chocolate mousse is also a fave!
What is your favorite thing to do in Austin and why? My favorite thing to do in Austin is to go hear local musicians perform live. For example, I love going to a venue like … to hear Guy Forsyth and many other artists play.
What is your favorite SU fun fact? Southwestern is the first university to host a homecoming in the country. It was held April 21, 1909, in San Gabriel Park.
What is your favorite SU tradition? My favorite SU tradition is Monday Church Lunch, or “Chunch.” It is incredible to see the community members coming together to make students, faculty, and staff feel right at home with a delicious home-cooked meal. Students especially love the amazing dessert table!
What is your favorite place on campus? My favorite place on campus is the chapel. Again, it is a place that brings so many together and the architecture is just breathtaking.
What are your hobbies? Hands down, I am a BAKER. I love trying new recipes and showing my appreciation and love for others by baking them a special treat. Thanksgiving and Christmas are my olympics & favorite time of year. I have a specific passion for pie! Chocolate and lemon meringue are two of my specialties.
Where were you born, and, if different, what do you consider your hometown? I was born in Lewisville, TX, but consider Austin, TX my hometown.
What would your pirate name be? Captain Jolly Sings-A-Lot
What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I’m a fraternal twin. My sister and I are just 3 minutes apart and have been blessed to share a really special bond. She’s incredibly artistic and teaches interior design.
If you could have coffee in the Cove with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be and why? Barbara Smith Conrad, (explain more) to gain a greater understanding of the lived experience of students of color on a college campus.
When not at work, you can find me… Hanging out with my family, sitting in the dance studio parking lot while my youngest daughter is in dance class, at church as a youth group sponsor, or baking something yummy.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be? Duplicate myself, so I could be in all the places, even if I’m double-booked. I could also get in extra time with all of my favorite people!
What advice would you give your college self? Don’t forget to leave your residence hall! There’s so much to explore! Clubs, organizations, and getting to know your professors. The relationships and experiences you have in college will stay with you for a life-time!
What is your anthem? “It is Well with my soul” - this is an old hymn that has rung true throughout my life through scary times, tough times, and incredible times. In short, it’s theme is that no matter what is happening in my life, I can say it is well with my soul because of Jesus and what his love did and does for me.
What is your go-to emoji? The Smiley Face with Smiling eyes is my go-to emoji. First, because I genuinely use this all the time to share excitement or positive feelings when texting. Second, because when I smile, so do my eyes - seriously, in most pictures I have to concentrate to make sure my eyes are in-fact open!
What app do you use the most? Pinterest - I love finding creative ideas and approaches to whatever I might be researching. From party themes to recipes and creating inspirations for my next project - it is a great catalyst for ideas!
What is your favorite get-to-know-you question, and what would your answer be? Oftentimes I will ask, “What question do you wish I would ask you?” in order to get to know someone better. A lot of the time, people have some things they love to talk about, but no-one ever quite gets to it during an introductory conversation, so this question opens up that door.
