Jim BankstonJim Bankston is the retired senior pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Houston. He previously pastored other churches in the greater Houston area. Dr. Bankston is currently a member of the boards of the Institute of Spirituality and Health, Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, Coalition of Mutual Respect, the Institute for Inter Faith Dialogue, and Perkins School of Theology. He previously has served on a number of other boards of both Methodist-affiliated and other non-profit organizations, including the Hispanic Task Force for the Texas Annual Conference and Providence Place in San Antonio. Dr. Bankston has been a delegate to Jurisdictional Conference, General Conference, and the World Methodist Conference.

Jim graduated from Southwestern, cum laude, with a degree in history in 1970. While attending Southwestern, he received the David Knox Porter Theology Award. He received his master’s degree from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in 1974 and his doctoral degree from Saint Paul School of Theology in 2000.
