Assistant Director of Admission
Madison Buechler
What would be your advice to prospective students about the college search?
Really think about the things you enjoy in life or the paths you would like to explore going forward in your future. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed in the college search process and knowing that you have these ideas of your interests will help you in determining where your best fit will be. You may not know exactly what you want to major in, or what to study, but you can at least have a baseline of wants and desires that you’re looking for in a school.
Why should students attend Southwestern?
Southwestern became my home away from home. The smaller campus size allowed me to really bond with my peers and professors in a way that I never got the chance to, coming from such a large High School. The education that you receive here is very one-on-one and offers opportunities for the individual that are not always offered at larger schools. The faculty and staff genuinely care about each student on campus and that made learning and living here a very rewarding experience.
What are your favorite restaurants in Georgetown and why?
600 Degrees Pizza on the Square is one of my go-to spots for an easy quick bite or a nice sit-down meal with friends and family.
What is your favorite thing to do in Georgetown and why?
Garey Park is relatively new to Georgetown and has become a fun spot of mine to go to for walking/running trails, throwing a frisbee, or swimming in the creek.
What are your favorite restaurants in Austin and why?
Snooze. It’s a fun place to grab brunch with friends on the weekend when you want to get away from Georgetown for a bit.
What is your favorite thing to do in Austin and why?
I really love just walking around the city with friends with no particular destination in mind. Concerts are always a plus too - Stubbs and Emo’s are amazing venues for getting to really see and hear an artist that you love!
What is your favorite SU fun fact?
If you stand in the circle by the small fountain (on the mall) facing away from the chapel and speak you can hear an echo.
What is your favorite SU tradition?
Not stepping on the school seal until you graduate.
What is your favorite place on campus?
The Cove.
What are your hobbies?
Cooking, painting/drawing, playing guitar/piano, propagating succulent plants, reading, working out.
Where were you born, and, if different, what do you consider your hometown?
I was born in Houston, Texas.
What would your pirate name be?
Madeye Beek
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I interned at Saturday Night Live through my internship with the New York Arts Program at Southwestern.
If you could have coffee in the Cove with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Zendaya, because she is Zendaya. There would be so much to talk about and I think she’d be a really nice person.
When not at work, you can find me…
At my apartment most likely cooking with my sister.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?
To fly.
What advice would you give your college self?
Get more out of your comfort zone. Go to that Friday Night Live event even if you are tired, sit in on different club meetings, you never know what you might enjoy that you did not previously envision yourself doing.
What is your anthem?
New York State of Mind - Billy Joel
What is your go-to emoji?
The laughing face.
What app do you use the most?
Instagram.
What is your favorite get-to-know-you question, and what would your answer be?
Would you rather be in the water with an alligator/crocodile or a shark? A whale or a shark? My answer is always shark. I like asking this one because it is pretty interesting to hear everyone’s reasoning for their answer. You can learn a lot about someone from silly random questions like those.
