What would be your advice to prospective students about the college search?
You should plan on visiting any school that you’re considering. The internet provides a plethora of great information about different colleges & universities, but you won’t know if it’s the right fit for you until you step foot on campus. I typically encourage students to visit a small, medium, and large school so that they can determine the type of campus environment that is right for them. You might not know that you prefer a smaller school like Southwestern until you truly experience the campus and its community.
Why should students attend Southwestern?
Southwestern really is the best of both worlds! You’ll be part of a tight-knit, caring campus community with easy access to a booming city. It’s perfect for those who want to take advantage of urban life without just being another face in the crowd.
What are your favorite restaurants in Georgetown and why?
I’ve been known to enjoy a good slice of pizza, so 600 Degrees Pizzeria is a top choice. Also, Monument Café is a paradise for breakfast lovers.
What is your favorite thing to do in Georgetown and why?
I love to walk around the town square (the best in TX!!!) exploring all of the cool little shops and restaurants.
What are your favorite restaurants in Austin and why?
Since we don’t have it in the Midwest, I’m obsessed with Torchy’s Tacos.
What is your favorite thing to do in Austin and why?
Spend a weekend at the Domain in North Austin. There’s tons of great retail and food options.
What is your favorite SU fun fact?
Southwestern was founded before Texas was even a state!
What are your hobbies?
In my free time I enjoy being active and sampling local coffee shops. I also love to read (especially by the pool) and watch my Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears!
What would your pirate name be?
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I was one semester away from being a high school Spanish teacher before I decided to go into college admissions.
If you could have coffee in the Cove with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would have a group coffee session with all of the original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Eagles.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?
What advice would you give your college self?
Be sure to study hard, but try to make the most of your time outside of the classroom as well. Join a club, go to campus-sponsored events, and pursue hobbies you didn’t have the time to pursue in high school. College is an excellent time to meet new people and seek out new experiences.
