Ricky Raven

Ricky Raven is a partner with Reed Smith LLP where he is a member of the Complex Litigation Group and serves as co-chair of the Mass & Toxic Torts team. Prior to joining Reed Smith in 2015, Mr. Raven practiced trial law with Thomson & Knight for 13 years. For the past 25 years, he has had first-chair responsibilities on behalf of Honeywell International’s national trial team handling multidistrict litigation involving Bendix brakes. He also is a member of the national trial team for Union Carbide Canada’s personal watercraft litigation. A former criminal prosecutor, Mr. Raven maintains a significant white-collar criminal defense practice in addition to his civil practice.

Mr. Raven is a director of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a trustee of the University of Houston Foundation, a director of the University of Houston board of visitors, a current or former commissioner of the Police Officers’ Civil Service Commission, a former commissioner and secretary of the State Commission on Judicial Conduct, and also has been involved with many other civic and philanthropic organizations over the years.

Ricky graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Houston in 1983 and earned his law degree from that institution in 1986. He has served on Southwestern’s Parent Leadership Gift Council since 2016 and spoke at the President’s Thinking Symposium in 2017. Prior to becoming a trustee, Ricky was a member of the board of visitors.
