Nikola Tesla was an influential scientist and visionary, and though he is widely known only for his alternating-current system, he held over a hundred other patents. Among these patents is his flat-disk turbine, which slightly resembles a stack of Frisbees with a hole cut through the middle, connected onto a central shaft. When connected to a motor, this assembly of flat rotating disks has the ability to suck air up through its central shaft and disperse it from its sides. I will be utilizing this technology in a new way by attaching the turbine onto the motor of a ceiling and desktop fan. After building both fans, I will test the airflow efficiency of each and determine the usefulness of this new model.

This fan will be a hybrid of the conventional and unconventional, displaying the conversion of a mundane appliance into a technologically innovative and aesthetically elegant piece of machinery.
