President Jake B. Schrum has announced that he will become president of Emory & Henry College in Virginia after he retires from Southwestern University June 30.

Emory & Henry is another Methodist-related liberal arts college in Emory, Va. Schrum will become president there Aug. 1.

“For more than 176 years, Emory & Henry has been putting its mark on students, not only by educating minds, but also by leaving an impression on their hearts,” Schrum told members of the Emory & Henry community after his appointment there was announced April 22. “ I am looking forward to being a part of this magnificent institution.”

Schrum has served as president of Southwestern since July 1, 2000. Emory & Henry will be the third university he has served as president.

“This is exciting news and we are delighted to know that Jake has accepted this invitation to continue his service to American higher education as well as his personal commitment to Methodist-related liberal arts colleges,” said Dr. Robert B. Karr, chair of the Southwestern University Board of Trustees.

Schrum will become the second former Southwestern University president to serve as president of Emory & Henry. William Carrington Finch, who served as president of Southwestern from 1949-1961, was president of Emory & Henry from 1965-1970.
