“We have a great six-week summer internship for young adults and I would love to talk to interested Southwestern students about it.” Quinius explains. He started working with UrbanPromise after his college graduation before founding his own branch in Honduras.

On Tuesday, October 2, Southwestern students can drop in to Career Services in Ste. 140 of the Prothro Center between 3-5 p.m. to visit with Quinius about the opportunity at UrbanPromise Honduras, which started with just one summer camp and 30 children, but now hosts six different program sites, reaching over 300 children and employing more than 40 local youth each year. A faith-based organization, UrbanPromise may attract prospective interns with Spanish language skills and interests as well as students interested in ministerial work.

Copan Ruinas also just happens to be the site of an annual conference called Project Honduras which brings together all types of non-profits and social serving organizations in Honduras for sharing and brainstorming. Quinius was surprised and pleased to discover that fellow SU grad Sandra Romero de Thompson is one of the conference organizers. Clearly, Southwestern graduates’ values for making a living making a difference are well-represented in this community.

“If there are any opportunities for students or alumni to benefit from my experience or our work then I would love to brainstorm!” Quinius offers. “I remember being inspired again while attending the King Creativity event a couple years back and would love to give back in whatever way I can. I wouldn’t be where I am without SU.”
