On Wednesday, April 4, Professor Howe and students of his architecture studio II visited the site of the new River Place restaurant being completed next to the San Gabriel river. The group was hosted by project designer architect Scott Adams (’97), a design principal with Overland Partners, San Antonio. Adams went to get and M.Arch at Texas A. & M. and has worked at Overland Partners for twelve years. Adams majored in biology and had been planning to go into medical school before taking his first architecture studio in his senior year. Overland Partners is one of the leading “regional” architecture firms in the country. Adams credits his liberal arts background for preparing him to deal with the complexities of personal and cultural relationships required to practice architecture. He has just returned from Saudi Arabia where his firm has been hired to design a resort home for a member of the royal family. The restaurant in Georgetown features numerous “green” features to conserve energy and water for which the firm is well known.
