Three Southwestern University employees were recently honored for exemplary service to the university.

The three received the Joe S. Mundy Exemplary Service Award, which was created in 2002 as a memorial to the leadership of former alumnus and Trustee Joe Mundy. The award honors faculty and staff members who have demonstrated exemplary service to Southwestern.

This year’s award winners were Mike Rossman, director of admissions; Francie Schroeder, executive assistant to the president; and Kenny Sheppard, professor of music.

Rossman has worked in Southwestern’s Admission Office for 35 years, and has helped recruit thousands of students to the university. He also serves as chapter advisor to Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Schroeder has been at Southwestern since 1984. She served as former President Roy Shilling’s senior executive secretary for 17 years and has worked for President Schrum since he took office in July 2000.

Sheppard has been a member of Southwestern’s music faculty since 1974 and has served as department chair for more than 25 years. He also conducts the SU Chorale, has served as the artistic director for Chorus Austin, has conducted the chorus for the Georgetown Festival of the Arts since it started in 2005, and has led a summer institute at Southwestern that gives choral conductors professional instruction in the great classical choral/orchestral works. Sheppard has taken Southwestern students to perform at Carnegie Hall and at the 2010 World Expo in China.
