Assistant Professor of Business (tenure-track)
The Department of Economics and Business at Southwestern University invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Business (subfield: Finance) faculty member to join an innovative liberal arts undergraduate business education department starting the fall semester of 2024.
Our highest priority for this tenure-track position in Business - Finance is for a candidate with disciplinary expertise in finance and the ability to create and teach interdisciplinary courses. This position will also help support Southwestern’s distinctive Financial Analyst Program in which students manage a $1.5 million endowed fund. Our preference is to have candidates with an interest and experience in teaching courses such as finance, investments, financial statement analysis, financial modeling, or other finance-related courses targeted to a general business major. Candidates with teaching and research interests in any finance area are encouraged to apply.
The department values applications from those able to contribute to the university’s strong interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Studies, Latin American and Border Studies, Race and Ethnicity Studies, and Feminist Studies, and a variety of interdisciplinary minors including International Studies, Health Studies, and Data Analytics. In keeping with Southwestern University’s commitment to diversity, the department encourages those from underrepresented minority groups and those with demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion to apply. The typical teaching load is a 3/2 and Southwestern University offers many opportunities for research funding to support professional development activities. Faculty are expected to maintain a research program that results in peer-reviewed professional achievement, participate actively in university service, participate conscientiously in academic advising and retention initiatives, and exhibit a dedication to equity and inclusiveness.
A Ph.D. in finance or related field is required. Ph.D. completed by August 2024 is preferred, but ABDs will be considered. Significant industry experience will also be considered in candidate evaluation.
The Economics and Business Department and Southwestern University are committed to recruiting candidates who both excel in teaching and research/creative work and can best serve our diverse student population. As of the fall 2022 semester, 36% of students enrolled at Southwestern were members of groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education and we are committed to further increasing and supporting the diversity of our students, faculty, and curriculum. The Department seeks candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to, and will take an active role in, enhancing diversity, inclusion, and equity across the University, including fostering a sense of community and belonging for students. In your application materials, please include specific and detailed information about how you have worked to enhance diversity and inclusion through your teaching practices, research, and/or service experiences within the college or university setting.
