The Outdoor Adventure Program recently visited the San Marcos River for a kayaking trip. Led by Assistant Director for Outdoor Adventure Branndon Bargo, students learned how to control their kayaks and take on whitewater rapids in the river.

Southwestern’s Outdoor Adventure programs depend on charitable contributions to purchase equipment and cover trip expenses.

The Claude Carr Cody IV Memorial Fund is one example of how gift support is helping students. Claude was a great friend to Southwestern—the direct descendent of Southwestern’s first academic dean, Claude Carr Cody Sr.; he served on the Board of Visitors and was a guest speaker for the Financial Analyst Program. He was also an Eagle Scout, a Scout leader, and an avid outdoor enthusiast—a passion he shared with and passed on to his two sons and daughter. This fund was established by Claude’s sister, Carol Cody Herder, and her husband Charlie, to honor Claude and his love for outdoor exploration, and to provide opportunities for students to make lasting friendships while discovering an appreciation of the outdoors through memorable, safe, educational experiences.
