Southwestern University rose 13 places inU.S. News & World Report’s 2023Best Collegesrankings—the biggest single-year jump in school history—and SU was also recognized as a top school in the Social Mobility category, which measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants.
This initiative was announced in October 2021 as part of a $1 million commitment from an anonymous donor in honor of their mother, a lifelong educator, in order to allow more Southwestern students to benefit from high impact experiences as outlined in the Tactical Plan.

Senior Maddie Williams is in the basement area of the student accommodation, where classes are held in the classrooms in the background. In addition to students often hanging out, the space also hosts various events like art exhibitions and dance parties. This was taken on the first day of classes.

Junior Elena Clark attends a football game with Micah Giblaint at the Camp Nou stadium, also known as the home stadium for the FC Barcelona team.
Honorable Mention: Teddy Hoffman
Senior Teddy Hoffman was visiting Amsterdam and got the chance to learn how to make Dutch pancakes at a restaurant. The chef invited her and her friends to hop behind the pancake bar and into the kitchen, and he showed them hot to pour and flip the mini pancakes. Teddy described the experience as "spontaneous and so fun!"

Maddie Williams was on a bridge near Westminster Abbey. She was on her way to meet all the other SU students to take a ride in the London Eye.

Ashlyn Zunker poses at a dock at Lake Brienzersee in Interlaken, Switzerland. After a 7-mile hike through the Swiss Alps, she settled along a little pebble beach and boat dock to relax and watch the sunset.

Junior Cooper Philips took a day trip by himself to Venice, to tour the canals throughout the city.

Maddie Williams and her friends are in the tube station posing by the station sign for the neighborhood where their student accommodations (The Stay Club in Kentish Town) are located. It was their last tube ride together before leaving the next day to come back to the States.
