Southwestern University has an opening for a part-time InfoDesk Evening Access Service Assistant position in the A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center (SLC).  This position is responsible for providing nonprofessional circulation and reserve desk functions requiring advanced operational skills and general knowledge of circulation services, practices, and procedures in an automated library environment. This is a part time, ten-month position working Sunday-Thursday with specific hours.

Primarily responsibilities include:

  • Check-in and check-out library materials.
  • Administrative and office support activities for the library.
  • Assist at the Circulation Front Desk.
  • Directing student workers in their evening library duties.
  • Manage AV equipment for checkout.
  • Oversee library operations, providing services to students and campus personnel.
  • Secure the library in the evening for student only access.
  • Troubleshoot minor issues including printers, library access, and other library services
  • Report evening events and notables to information desk personnel.
  • Evaluate broken/damaged items for cost-effective mending, replacing, or discarding.
  • Work evenings and some holiday hours.
  • Working Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. during the campus fall and spring semesters.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of a University Library facility, including a practical knowledge of library circulation work.
  • Demonstrated prior experience using microcomputer and possess excellent work processing software skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working with the public with excellent customer-service skills.
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability make independent decisions.
  • Ability to work evening hours for library closing.
  • Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to hear, see, and speak.
  • Ability to reach, twist, bend, stoop, stand, kneel, handle and push/pull.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Position Requirements:

  • One plus years of library assistant experience.
  • Undergraduate coursework.
