Last weekend, Southwestern’s programming contest teams traveled Russellville, Arkansas to compete at the CCSC Mid-South conference at Arkansas Technological University. The “su-pirata-informatico” team, comprised of Sarah Doty, Lane Hill, and Carl West, did a splendid job placing 8th with 3 problems solved. The “su-root” team, comprised of Stephen Foster, Bobby Potter, and Tommy Rogers, were one of only two teams to have 4 problems solved, the maximum number solved by any of the 20 teams. This placed them in an impressive 2nd place, the ranking determined by the time it took to solve the problems.

The Southwestern programming contest teams have had an impressive season, with the “su root” team finishing 6th overall at the South Central Regional ACM Programming Contest at Baylor University, the strongest showing ever as the first to finish in the top 10 (our previous best finish was a 12th place). This team was also the top finisher in the “undergrad only” category, which includes all schools with no graduate degree programs.

The teams will pick up their practice sessions next fall on Friday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm, so if you know of anyone who might be interested in participating, please contact Dr. Rick Denman at 1594, or E-mail me.
