Southwestern University invites applications for an Internship and Employment Coordinator.  This position supports the internship development functions of the Internship Office, helping connect students with internships and learning activities related to students’ academic and career goals.

 Position responsibilities:

  • Develops relationships with employers and internship programs to cultivate high-impact experiences, including internships, shadowing, and externships opportunities.
  • Conducts internship site visits to cultivate relationships with employers.
  • Assists employers in developing internship descriptions and advertising opportunities to students.
  • Works directly with students to help connect them to relevant internships both on- and off-campus.
  • Conducts industry-specific programming for students relating to internships.
  • Helps plan and implement events, including industry-specific programming for students and biannual Internship & Career Fairs.
  • Assists Assistant Director for Internship and Employment Development with policy development and program assessment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned       

 Position Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
    • Minimum two years professional experience coordinating complex and detailed programs with positive outcomes.
  • Job related experience and skills:
    • Program development and assessment experience.
    • Aptitude for developing collaborative relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and employers.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and appropriately (through written word and public speaking) with varied stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in a team-based environment, follow through on independent projects, and balance multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity (DIBE) practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to use basic and some advanced functions of Windows operating systems, Google, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.
    • Demonstrated professional manner with all internal and external University constituents.
    • Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work products.
    • Proven ability to perform well in stressful situations.
    • Understanding and commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to a liberal arts faculty.
    • Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.

 Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working for an institution of higher education, preferably in career related programming.
  • Experience working with college students in academic advising/retention capacity.
