Southwestern University is currently accepting applications for three Landscape Services Technicians, which are available for immediate hire.  This is a year-round, full-time, benefited position.

Primary Duties: Perform assigned responsibilities, duties and tasks according to established practices and procedures with minimal supervision with assigned time-frame; perform mowing, edging, trimming, blowing, sweeping, and weed pulling; perform grounds/entry and parking lot clean-up, using equipment such as: 2 and 4 cycle (gasoline) mowers, edgers, blowers, vacuums, hand tools, etc.; maintain daily preventive maintenance of equipment to ensure equipment’s safe and efficient operation; follow daily direction of specific seasonal tasks and procedures; i.e.: minor irrigation system repair, preventive maintenance of hand tools, aerating, tree mulching, fertilization, bed cultivation, seasonal flower rotations, jogging trail maintenance, and trim extended uncultivated areas; cut, prune and trim trees of all heights to remove and control excess, undesired, or diseased wood and foliage. Use power saws, chain saws and pruning tools to cut tree branches and brush; climb ladders to reach branches at medium heights; maintain campus trees and shrubs by planting, pruning, watering, spraying, weeding, and cleaning shrub beds; assist in the coordination of landscape improvements using information on available plant material, available level of maintenance, and landscape master plan. Construct new ornamental beds, and renovate old beds per the instructions of the Landscape Services Team Lead; and perform other duties as assigned. 

Successful applicant will meet the following job requirements:  Possess a thorough knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in general landscaping; possess a working knowledge of necessary equipment used in grounds work and a general knowledge of different species of turf and their growing characteristics; ability to perform grounds maintenance according to accepted practices; ability to operate power mowers and other related power equipment; ability to lift and handle up to 50 lbs.; ability to work under limited supervision; have a stable work history and ability to provide work-related references; possess a valid Texas driver’s license in good standing with the Department of Motor Vehicles; have no felony convictions; ability to provide documents establishing identity and employment eligibility in the United States. Irrigation and caring of sports fields experience is preferred.  In addition to the above requirements this position will work with many campus events, furniture moves and labor support to other crafts within Facilities Management department.
