Southwestern University has an immediate opening for an Alarm Controls Technician. This position inspects, repairs, and maintains all fire/security alarm systems and insures fire sprinkler systems/kitchen hood systems are operational and inspected on an annual basis. This full-time, 12-month, benefited position within the Facilities Management department.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Repair, maintain, and install all fire and security alarms and equipment on campus, implementing required tests, inspections, and maintaining files as required by law; repair and troubleshoot building automation control systems w/ support of the BAS dept; operate electrical and battery powered equipment; maintain equipment; perform minor equipment repairs using power and hand tools; other duties as assigned
Qualifications: One or more years of experience in a position within a facilities management environment. Must have a thorough knowledge of A/C and D/C electrical circuits and skill in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of fire and security alarms; the ability to read and interpret plans, system diagrams, architectural blueprints, and specifications is strictly required; up to date knowledge of NFPA code requirements or willingness to learn; basic computer skills are required; a valid Texas driver’s license; ability and willingness to respond to after hour alarm trouble calls is required. Must be a mature individual who is self-motivated, honest, dependable and requires little supervision. Must be able to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities. Two plus years of experience in fire and security alarm environment and ability to troubleshoot electrical circuitry preferred.
