In response to Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to end the statewide face mask mandate, Southwestern University will continue our Pirate Pledge and COVID-19 health protocols. All students, faculty, and staff should continue to wear a face mask(s), practice physical distancing, and adhere to all of the other measures the University has put in place to protect our community from the spread of the coronavirus.

The University’s decision takes into consideration the current rate of infection in Williamson County and throughout Central Texas. Although there has been progress made in vaccinating more people, COVID-19 positivity rates remain in the red or “uncontrolled spread” classification for Williamson County.

We will also continue to adhere to our no visitors and “no spectators” policy until local and regional COVID positivity rates are on par or lower than the rate on our campus.

Please remain vigilant and persistent in protecting yourself and others during this pandemic. While the end is almost in sight, now is the time to re-energize and honor your commitment to all Pirates and those who support our community.
