Southwestern University is currently accepting applications for a Lead Custodian for the day shift. The schedule for this shift is Monday – Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm. This position is a full-time, benefited position with responsibilities to include:
- Together with the Supervisor, determine daily work assignment for assigned staff & communicate with the staff.
- Check keys, equipment, and chemicals in and out for the staff member’s assignments.
- Inspect equipment and alert Supervisor of needed repairs.
- Inform Supervisor of needed supplies.
- Distribute supplies as needed.
- Collect, process, and distribute laundry.
- Perform regular custodial assignment.
- Respond to campus emergencies as needed.
- Assume responsibility of the department when Supervisor is out.
- In addition to primary assignment, perform additional assigned custodial duties.
- Inspect buildings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Successful applicants will meet the following job requirements: high school diploma or GED; minimum of five year of experience in a custodial position OR at least three years in a lead position in custodial or other industries; ability and willingness to supervise others in accordance with University policies and practices; possess proven leadership qualities, honesty, strong work ethic, and dependability in order to maintain a high unit of productivity and morale; possess demonstrated skill, knowledge, and experience of all aspects of custodial operations, including an understanding and ability to demonstrate the proper use of chemicals, equipment and tools; possess flexibility with schedule; ability to adjust schedule as needed or work longer hours when emergencies arise and deadlines must be met; ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds; willingness to adhere to the University’s core values; willingness to comply with University Safety Program; knowledge of OSHA and other environmental/safety regulations; possess good interaction and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work product; ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule; possess a valid Texas driver’s license in good standing with the Department of Motor Vehicles and record meets standards of the University’s insurance carrier. Preferred requirements: More than five years of experience as a custodian in a commercial setting; one year of experience in a lead or assistant supervisory position in custodial services OR more than three years in a lead position in custodial or other industries; knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding cleaning chemicals; possess a willingness to seek training to enhance or learn new skills on cleaning techniques; ability to speak and understand conversational Spanish related to issuing instructions for work tasks and use of equipment, materials, and chemicals; fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred; prior experience using scheduling and/or project management software for staff and cleaning assignments.
