Southwestern University is seeking a part-time Assistant for Advising and Retention.  This temporary (20 hours per week for 12 months), non-benefited position has responsibility for supporting advising and retention initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Advising and Retention.

Primary responsibilities include:  assist with strategic plan initiatives for academic advising and retention programs; assist in the assessment and evaluation of the advising and retention initiatives; conduct research on best practices related to faculty-based advising models and retention programs; support the planning of Sprog and additional advising-related campus wide events; prepare materials and communications in support of academic advising and retention initiatives; review and revise advising and retention related documents; and collaborate with departments on campus to advance advising and retention efforts.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; relevant experience in a higher education setting; demonstrated knowledge and experience in a theoretical foundation of student development and/or advising; possess ability to work with and manage volunteers of diverse backgrounds and age groups; general computer proficiency; experience in research and data analysis; high level of energy, ambition, and orientation toward details; ability to work with others as a member of a team; ability to respect the confidential nature of the work; demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic; willingness to adhere to the University’s core values; excellent interaction and communication skills (verbal and written); knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.
