As was referenced in the July 24 Campus Readiness Update email sent to faculty and staff by President Trombley, the University is requiring all faculty and staff who will be teaching and working on campus this fall to be tested for COVID-19 before the start of the fall semester.  We have finalized intake testing procedures with a local healthcare partner, St, David’s CareNow Urgent Care (CareNow), and are sharing the details with you about this testing process with this email.

(Please Note:  If you are teaching or working remotely during the fall, you should have received a separate communication earlier this week about whether you will need to have a COVID-19 test.  If you did not receive this separate communication, please contact Elma Benavides right away.)

The University has contracted with CareNow to administer the testing and bill the University directly, which means there will be no cost to any of our faculty and staff, even for those who may not participate in our group medical plan.

There are five (5) full days set aside for appointment dates from August 27, 2020 through September 1, 2020.  Testing will be conducted exclusively for Southwestern faculty and staff at the St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care center in Round Rock.  The center will not be open to the public during this time. The address for this center follows:

St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care
1820 Gattis School Rd
Round Rock, TX 78664
(512) 861-8050

By the end of this week, you will receive a notice from our Human Resources department asking you to complete your appointment sign-up within a Google Calendar Appointment Slots document. All of the details regarding the location, type of test, and information you will need to have with you will be included in the Google Calendar entry that will be created when you save your appointment time slot  Additionally, this email will include typical medical forms that CareNow requires to be completed prior to your appointment.

All test results will be returned to the Human Resources department to ensure that private medical information is kept confidential.  You will receive notice of the results of your test from CareNow and will also have the option to sign-up with LabCorp to receive your results quicker through a secure portal.  If your test indicates that you have COVID-19, a representative from the Human Resources department will be in immediate contact with you to discuss next steps, which will include a self-isolation period.

Throughout the semester, the University plans to conduct random COVID-19 testing of students, faculty, and staff.  You will be contacted if you are selected for one of these tests.
