As universities extend their spring breaks or move to online learning during the 2020 coronavirus crisis, many college students are enjoying a well-earned rest from the rigors of the spring semester. Others are preparing to transition to return to coursework via unfamiliar technology, including learning management systems, online chat applications, and meeting software. But Southwestern University’s Paige Hemingson ’22 has decided to devote her time away from campus to helping those who need help in her central Austin neighborhood. Undaunted by the ongoing pandemic, Hemingson has offered to shop for groceries, pick up prescriptions, and/or run errands for those who are housebound or are most at risk from the virus.
