Southwestern University is currently accepting applications for a Grounds/Laborer position, Job #989, which is available for immediate hire. This is a year-round, full-time, benefited position.
Primary Duties: Maintain the health and beauty of the turf and landscaping throughout the University grounds. This shall include, but not be limited to, planting; mowing; edging sidewalks, shrub beds, and roadways; watering; sod replacement; and filling holes; assist with the installation and repair of irrigation systems; recognize and report turf having disease or other unhealthy conditions which would create a hazard; apply fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc. to turf and assure the proper and timely completion of such planned activities; assist Supervisor in the maintenance of accurate records for chemical use and work performed including mowing, seeding, fertilization, aeration, and pesticide use; operate mowers and other equipment in a safe and responsible manner and perform other duties as assigned.
Successful applicant will meet the following job requirements: Possess a thorough knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in general landscaping; possess a working knowledge of necessary equipment used in grounds work and a general knowledge of different species of turf and their growing characteristics; ability to perform grounds maintenance according to accepted practices; ability to operate power mowers and other related power equipment; ability to lift and handle up to 50 lbs.; ability to work under limited supervision; have a stable work history and ability to provide work-related references; possess a valid Texas driver’s license in good standing with the Department of Motor Vehicles; have no felony convictions; ability to provide documents establishing identity and employment eligibility in the United States. Irrigation and caring of sports fields experience is preferred. In addition to the above requirements this position will work with many campus events, furniture moves and labor support to other crafts within Facilities Management department.
