The Department of Economics and Business at Southwestern University invites applications for a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics position beginning August 2020. The second and third years of the appointment are contingent on satisfactory performance. Our highest priority is for candidates who can teach Principles of Economics, an introductory course that covers microeconomics and macroeconomics, and upper level electives that appeal to both economics and business majors. We will consider applicants from many subfields in economics, however candidates that complement existing offerings will be prioritized. Our programs aim to develop skills in data analysis and, therefore, applicants should be comfortable with econometric methods. Interest in working with students on empirical projects as part of independent studies, capstone projects or honors work, while not required, will be viewed favorably in evaluating the applications. Candidates are also encouraged to demonstrate their experience or interest in connecting their research and teaching to other disciplines or to our interdisciplinary programs (Data Science, International Studies, Environmental Studies, Feminist Studies, Latin American and Border Studies, and Race and Ethnicity Studies.)

Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and a willingness to foster undergraduate research. Potential for an active research program is valued. The visiting teaching load is six courses per academic year. Candidates who have a strong commitment to enhancing diversity in academia are encouraged to apply.
