Southwestern University.  The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a one year Visiting Assistant Professor appointment (2019-2020).

The successful candidate will teach four sections of an introductory sociology class and two upper-level electives of their choosing (split into a 3-3 teaching load). Candidates should express their willingness and ability to do so and specify which upper-level electives they intend to teach in their cover letters. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching.

Areas of specialization are open. However, candidates who propose to teach upper-level electives that complement our current course offerings and have the potential to contribute to the school’s interdisciplinary programs – Environmental Studies, Feminist Studies, International Studies, Latin American and Border Studies, and Race and Ethnicity Studies – are particularly encouraged to apply.  In line with Southwestern University’s commitment to diversity, the department is especially interested in attracting candidates from underrepresented minority groups, particularly those with demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion.

A Ph.D. in Sociology, a related field, or an interdisciplinary field should be completed by spring 2019.
