Technical Director of Theatre

The Theatre department in the Sarofim School of Fine Arts at Southwestern University invites applications for a Technical Director of Theatre. This is a 9 month, full-time professional staff position with benefits.
This position will be responsible for executing the scenery and properties designs for all Theatre Department stage productions. The Technical Director will collaborate with faculty in supervising the work of students enrolled in Theatre Production Laboratory courses, and serve as instructor of record for that course.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Supervise paid students, enrolled students and professional staff in the scene shop; scenery construction and rigging; devise and maintain shop schedules and production budgets; order materials and supplies; manage technical and dress rehearsals in collaboration with staff and faculty; maintain scene shop and equipment; generate cost estimates, build/paint schedules, and working drawings; participate in departmental and production meetings as schedules and work loads allow, assist other theatre technical staff with other aspects of production and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include, but are not limited to: MFA in technical theatre and experience as a theatrical technical director, stage carpenter and stage rigger; experience teaching theatrical carpentry, rigging, etc.; ability to organize and manage budgets and schedules with spreadsheet and scheduling software; strong skills in organizing and supervising students; knowledge of vendors, purchasing and inventory procedures; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community. Technical direction in a college setting, 2 years of experience as Technical Director and experience as a scene painter is preferred.
