News from the English Department
September 24, 2018
Greetings, English Majors!
Just want to share some info about what’s going on in Mood and beyond.
Save the Date: Oct. 17, 4:00 Pizza with the Department
We’ll talk about spring 2019 courses and everything you always wanted to know about the English major but were afraid to ask (location TBA)
New Funding Opportunities for Students
Check out the new “funding opportunities for students” on the departmental webpage. You’ll find details about a new writing prize and our commitment to help those seniors who want to apply to grad school: https://www.southwestern.edu/english/student-funding-opportunities/index.php
(Thanks to Dr. Saenger and Dr. Gaines for their work on establishing the Jason Magnon Writing Prize)
Keep an eye out for details on the English Department’s 2018-19 Speaker Series. Dr. Kilfoyle will be the fall organizer; Dr. Cleere will take on that role for the spring.
Speaking of speakers—the English department is co-sponsoring this year’s History Colloquium. Dr. Carole Levin’s play “Elizabeth I: To Speak or Use Silence” will be performed on Sunday, Oct. 14 in the Mood Atrium at 6:00; Dr. Levin will be giving a lecture on English Queens on Mon., Oct 15. Keep your eye out for the cool posters around campus advertising this event.
That’s all for now. Hope that you’re having a good semester. Happy reading, viewing, thinking, and discussing!
Dr. Meyers (aka Dr. M) on behalf of the English Department
