The Paideia Connections Lecture Series at Southwestern University is a bi-annual event that features brief presentations by two faculty members from diverse fields. It encourages members of the campus community and the general public to engage in thought-provoking discussions with each other following the talks.

Students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited to this year’s event featuring two distinguished SU faculty members. Ben Pierce, Professor of Biology and Holder of the Lillian Nelson Pratt Chair, will speak on “Biodiversity: The Ecology and Evolution of the Georgetown Salamander.” Shannon Mariotti, Professor of Political Science, will present “The Experience of Democracy: The Politics of Meditation and Mindfulness.”

Following these presentations, members of the campus community and the general public are invited to share connections they make between these presentations. President Edward Burger serves as the event moderator, facilitating what is sure to be a stimulating and thought-provoking discussion.

This free and public event is supported by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty and the President’s Office. For more information, Contact Barbara Jean at 512-863-1567 or jeanb@southwestern.edu.
