Southwestern is one of 47 colleges and universities in the country to be named a Best Buy school in the 2017 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges. Southwestern is also noted in the 2017 edition guide for being a small college/university strong in art or design and business.

The guide, created by former New York Times education editor, Edward B. Fiske, evaluates many qualities when selecting its Best Buy institutions, including:

  • Four- or five-star academic ratings
  • Inexpensive or moderate price category
  • Quality of student life on campus

The 2017 guide, published July 1, is the 33rd edition of the publication. The book profiles more than 300 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. Twenty-one public schools and 26 private schools were included on the publication’s Best Buy list.

Southwestern has been listed in the Fiske Guide since the publication’s 3rd edition in 1985.
