Flush-Eliminating Urinal Retrofit

I am exploring a new method to create flushless urinals with this project. I will test the viability of using a mesh coated with a substance that is hydrophilic but oleophobic, so it will retain a layer of oil while allowing water to pass through, in order to create a seal that can be placed in the drain opening of a urinal. This seal will consist of a cartridge with a layer of mesh at the bottom, which will retain a layer of oil inside the cartridge, preventing unpleasant smells from escaping much like a normal flush-less urinal. If successful this will allow an inexpensive method for standard urinals to be converted to flushless urinals by simply placing this device in the drain and turning off the water.
