The Sarofim School of Fine Arts’ Music Department is proud to present cellist Hai Zheng and fellow music faculty members for the first faculty recital of the 2018-2019 season.

“Hai Zheng and Friends” is the first Sarofim music event of the year, featuring Hai Zheng, professor of cello and bass. The award-winning Ms. Zheng has been a featured soloist in orchestras in Europe, Asia, and the U.S., and is among the list of “Notable Women” for the Long Center for Performing Arts in Austin, Texas. She was honored this past May by Austin mayor Steve Adler and the Austin City Council for her eighteen-year contribution to the community as the Artistic Director for the Young Musicians Festival Competition at the Asian American Cultural Center. Ms. Zheng has been an Assistant Professor of Music and Artist in Residence at Southwestern University since 1995.

Hai Zheng will be accompanied by five other outstanding faculty musicians: Dr. David Asbury, Guitar; Bruce Cain, Baritone; David Utterback, Piano; Jessica Valls, Bass; and Adrienne Inglis, Flute. Together they will perform a range of classical compositions by composers Rossini, Villa-Lobos, Chavez, Ponce, Scherperel, and Despalj.

Hai Zheng and Friends is a spark of Pirate Pride to kick off an exciting new season at the Sarofim School of Fine Arts. Join us in the Alma Thomas Theater on Saturday, September 8th at 7:30 pm to enjoy a fantastic night of music performed by our very own Southwestern faculty!

This event is free and open to the public. No ticket reservation is required.
