The Sarofim School of Fine Arts’ Studio Art and Art History Departments are pleased to present Elena Gonzalez ’18 and Liz Mazurek ’18 in the Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery.

In her senior art exhibition, Familiar Matters, Elena Gonzalez explores materials and objects associated with the home as evocators of memory and family history. Through paintings, weavings, drawings, and multi-media works, she investigates the ways that we evolve through our experiences of domesticity and its sociopolitical, environmental, personal, and spiritual influences. Using her feminist, Latinx perspective, she “navigates the intersections of cultural tradition, learned behavior, and intuitive self-development in order to examine the influence of societal expectations.”

In her exhibition Swell, Liz Mazurek creates large, voluminous porcelain vessels that embody familiar folds and the soft, sensual curvature of the human figure. By exploring a corporeal relatability between body and clay, Mazurek challenges Western bodily standards to quietly celebrate individual appearance.

The opening reception will take place on April 5th from 5:00-6:30pm. The exhibition will remain up through April 11th. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
