“The Heidi Chronicles” is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play written by American playwright Wendy Wasserstein, first produced in 1988. It follows the life of Heidi Holland, a successful art historian, as she navigates various social and political issues in the United States from the 1960s to the 1980s. The play explores themes such as feminism, the changing role of women, and the AIDS epidemic through Heidi’s personal and professional experiences. Throughout the play, Heidi confronts societal expectations and challenges the status quo, often at great personal cost. While she achieves professional success, she grapples with the sacrifices required to achieve it, including the loss of meaningful relationships and the struggle to balance work and motherhood.Ultimately, “The Heidi Chronicles” paints a poignant portrait of a woman’s journey to find her own voice and place in a rapidly changing world.
The Heidi Chronicles runs February 16-18 and 23-25 in the Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones Theater. Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
