Lecture and performance by burlesque artist Coco Lectric. This lecture and performance is a glimpse into the world of burlesque, which leads up to our production of “Gypsy.”

“Gypsy” is the spectacular American musical, where Gypsy Rose Lee becomes a famous burlesque artist in the 1930’s. The production of “Gypsy” runs March 26-30 in the Alma Thomas Theater (see www.southwestern.edu/productions for more information and to purchase tickets).

Austin-based Coco Lectric is a classically trained dancer, actor, and vocalist. She graces stages all over the world with her love of performing. The Austin Chronicle voted her as the Best Burlesque/Cabaret Performer in 2013. In addition to all of her performance credits, she is also the co-producer of the Texas Burlesque Festival, founder and producer of The Jigglewatts Burlesque Revue in Austin, creator and director of The Austin Academy of Burlesque, and founder of the Austin Burlesque Alliance.

Coco’s sizzling moves and bombshell looks have earned her multiple titles, including the “Audience Choice Award 2009” at the Texas Burlesque Festival, “Queen of Burlesque 2010” at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival and “2010 Texas Performer of the Year” from the Hotrods and Heels Festival.
