[Sat 10/23] Self Care Saturday: Sustainability & Nutrition

Time: 2 - 3 pm
Location: SU Community Garden
Description: Our environment has a direct impact on our physical health and well-being. Healthy communities need clean air, a non-toxic environment, and nutritious food. This Self-Care Saturday will explore how sustainability, gardening, and nutrition can help create a healthy planet and a healthier you! Establishing a practice of nutritious eating is essential to your overall well-being and long-term health. Learn about the personal and climate benefits of gardening and a sustainable lifestyle. Join Mosaic and our campus partners for a fun outdoor event!

Join the SU Garden Club on a tour of the garden, build residence hall-ready sprout gardens, and naturally tie-dye your Mosaic tote with SEAK and the Sustainability Ambassadors! The first 25 RSVPs will receive a FREE plant propagation (Register at bit.ly/SUSelfCare)!

Attend this event for the chance to win an at-home herb garden kit! Attend 3 or more Self-Care Saturday programs to be entered into a drawing for a HUGE self-care bundle package. Collect pins at each event and add them to your Self-Care Saturdays tote bag!

[Sun 10/24] Conservation Crafting

Time: 3 - 4 pm
Location: McCombs Campus Center Veranda
Description: Join the Sustainability Ambassador Conservation Team in upcycling plastic water bottles into planters! At this event, you can get crafty and customize your planter with provided acrylic paints. When your planter is done, clover seedlings will be provided for transplanting.

[Mon 10/25] Treasure Chest + Pirate Pantry Opening Party

Time: 1 - 4 pm
Location: Mundy Hall 125
Description: The Treasure Chest, Southwestern University’s free store, is back! Come look through our gently used clothes, shoes, and home goods to find your new treasures. Also opening in the same location is the Pirate Pantry, Southwestern University’s brand new food pantry. Regardless of need, stock up on soups, ramen, and other non-perishable items. The opening party will feature free vegan sandwiches from Ike’s Love & Sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies from Bakers of Tomorrow!

[Tues 10/26] Taste of Sustainability

Time: 7 - 8 pm
Location: Bishop’s Lounge
Description: Join the Sustainability Ambassador Food Team for a fun night of taste testing our favorite sustainable recipes. Come learn about how your food choices impact the environment while trying some easy-to-make recipes homemade by us! 

[Wed 10/27] Southwestern Farmers Market

Time: 11 am - 2 pm
Location: Academic Mall
Description: Calling all pumpkin lovers! This Farmers Market will feature all things pumpkin - pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin painting. 

[Thur 10/28] The Human Element Screening

Time: 6:30 - 9 pm
Location: Virtual (Registration here: bit.ly/su-humanelement)
Description: Southwestern University presents a virtual screening of “The Human Element,” a documentary following the 4 elements - Earth, Air, Water, and Fire - to reveal how environmental change is affecting everyday Americans. After the screening, join us for a post-film discussion with Southwestern’s very own Dr. Jennie DeMarco and Dr. Michael Bray, and local Citizens Climate Lobby Leader Paul Gonin!

[Fri 10/29] Sustainable Halloween Fair

Time: 12 - 4 pm
Location: Academic Mall
Description: Come check out SU’s first Sustainable Halloween Fair. The Halloween-themed event will have yummy vegan, vegetarian, and meat-based food options from 600 Degrees Pizza and Project Pollo, spooky and groovy music, yard games, and a sustainable costume contest! There will also be several SU organizations that promote sustainability efforts and awareness on campus tabling at the fair that will prove sustainable “tricks and treats” for attendees.

Details about the costume contest will be published on our social media accounts. Prizes will be a KAMMOK Hammock, a Solar Charger, and a LIV&Leaf Plant!

[Sat 10/30] Pollinator Garden Planting

Time: 10 am - 12 pm
Location: SU Community Garden
Description: Did you know that pollinators - such as birds, bats, bees, butterflies - provide pollination services to over 180,000 different plant species and more than 1200 crops? Join us in planting native pollinator-friendly plants and wildflower seeds around the campus community garden. Fresh Donuts will be provided.
