Explore career opportunities in a diverse array of Career Communities through these informal Q&A sessions with alumni and other professionals. Hear about what they do, how they got there, and what advice they’d offer you to do something similar. This session features Kay Mayfield ’78, MA, Retired Foreign Service Officer, US Dept. of State.

Kay graduated from Southwestern in 1978 with a political science major. She also earned a MA in journalism from UT Austin. In 2018, Kay retired from a 27-year career as a diplomat (Foreign Service Officer) with the US Department of State. Working now as an independent consultant, Kay has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share about the Foreign Service, including hiring, from her time there.
