• Candlelight Service, Lois Perkins Chapel
Please join us for one of Southwestern’s longest annual traditions of the Candlelight Service to celebrate Advent and the Christmas season.

The Service is adapted from “An Advent Service of Lessons and Carols” in The United Methodist Church Book of Worship, and is based on one developed in 1934 for the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge.

Since 1915, the Southwestern community has gathered for this Christmas tradition. This year, while we cannot gather in our beautiful Lois Perkins Chapel, we invite you to participate in your own homes and remember the spirit of the holiday.

Alumni ministers from around the country will be reading the selected scripture readings, while our Southwestern Chorale will perform the hymns with brass bells. Our readers include:

Rev. William Echols-Richter ’80, P’18 of Frisco, Texas
Rev. Ginger E. Gaines-Cirelli ’92 of Washington, DC
Rev. R. Christian Harrison ’73, P04 of Georgetown, Texas
Rev. Laura A. Merrill ’84 of San Antonio, Texas
Rev. Andrew W. Smith ’79, P’06 of Kerrville, Texas
Rev. Samuel J. Smith ’85 of Stockbridge, Massachusetts
Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman ’79 of Cumberland, Maryland

Please register to attend, to receive the video link for December 3. The service will be aired on YouTube at 6:00 p.m. CST.
