• Brian Thornton, cello
The Music Department is thrilled to announce the first Sarofim Music Series event of the season, with cellist Brian Thornton and faculty pianist Kiyoshi Tamagawa.

A 17-year member of the world-class Cleveland Orchestra, cellist Brian Thornton has performed internationally in hundreds of venues and has been featured as a soloist with more than 30 orchestras. He has been a Yamaha Artist since 2010, and enjoys frequent performances at outreach concerts in Japan. A musician of many interests, Mr. Thornton conducts his own ensemble in Solon, Ohio, and has premiered modern works from lesser-known to widely-respected composers such as John Adams and Donald Erb. He has also had the pleasure of premiering over 100 new works of music as a soloist or a chamber ensemble member. Mr. Thornton was trained by respected teachers Lev Aronson, Steven Geber, Lynn Harrell and John Sharp, and delights in passing down his knowledge through master classes held across the globe.
