The Music Department is thrilled to announce a stellar concert with cellist Brian Thornton and faculty pianist Kiyoshi Tamagawa as part of the 2019-2020 Sarofim Music Series.

A 17-year member of the world-class Cleveland Orchestra, cellist Brian Thornton has performed internationally in hundreds of venues and has been featured as a soloist with more than 30 orchestras. Throughout his career he has had the pleasure of premiering over 100 new works of music as a soloist or a chamber ensemble member. A musician of many interests, Mr. Thornton conducts his own ensemble in Solon, Ohio and has premiered modern works from lesser-known to renowned composers such as John Adams and Donald Erb. He has been a Yamaha Artist since 2010 and enjoys frequent performances at outreach concerts in Japan. Mr. Thornton was trained by respected teachers Lev Aronson, Steven Geber, Lynn Harrell and John Sharp, and delights in passing down his knowledge through master classes held across the globe.
