Prior to Sunday matinee performances of Silent Sky, the Sarofim School of Fine Arts’ Theatre Department invites you to attend a special lecture by Physics professor and Fountainwood Observatory Director Dr. Mark Bottorff, titled “A Heartbeat in the Heavens: Henrietta Leavitt’s Grand Discovery.”

Dr. Bottorff’s presentation will map the incredible impact Henrietta Leavitt left on the science world with her often overlooked accomplishments in the field of astronomy. This event will be held at 2:00pm prior to Sunday matinees in the Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones Theater, so get to your seats early and enjoy a complimentary discussion that will deepen your understanding– and hopefully, your appreciation– of the star of Silent Sky, Henrietta Leavitt.

Tickets range from $12-18, with discounts available to patrons under the age of 16 or over the age of 63. Admission is free to Southwestern University students, faculty and staff. Tickets can be purchased by phone, online or in person with the Mathers Box Office, located in the Sarofim School of Fine Arts Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center. The Mathers Box Office is open 12:30-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as one hour prior to performance times.  (512) 863-1378
