American Academy of Arts & Sciences Visiting Scholars Program 
The Visiting Scholars Program provides residential fellowships for junior faculty members and postdoctoral scholars in the humanities and social sciences.

The Hellman Fellowship in Science and Technology Policy provides an opportunity for an early-career professional with training in science or engineering to learn about a career in public policy and administration.

American Academy in Rome
A wide range of fellowships in the humanities, related social sciences and allied natural sciences, most of which involve residency at the American Academy in Rome.

American Association for the Advancement of Science
Science and Technology Policy Fellowships provide opportunities for scientists and engineers to learn firsthand about policy making and implementation while contributing their knowledge and analytical skills to policymakers.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) 
Six fellowships and awards for women pursuing graduate or further education.  One fellowship for postdoctoral research leaves.  One opportunity for summer/short term research and publication grants.

American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society awards research grants and fellowships to promising early-career scientists with unique hypotheses for cancer prevention and study.

American Chemical Society 
Funding opportunities include the ACS Petroleum Research Fund, TEVA Pharmaceuticals Scholars Grants, ACS Community Recognition Grants, Green Chemistry Grants, and the ACS Science Policy Fellowship Program. The ACS International Center is a guide for scientists and engineers looking to study, work and conduct research overseas.

American Institute of Indian Studies
The American Institute of Indian Studies provides about 35 fellowships per year to scholars and artists in pursuit of knowledge about India.

American Heart Association 
Scientist Development Grants fund research broadly related to cardiovascular function, disease and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems, including multidisciplinary efforts.

American Philosophical Society
Funding opportunities include grants and fellowships in the humanities, medical clinical investigation, all areas of knowledge, field studies, astrobiology, research in the Society library and Native American studies.

Beckman Center for the History of Chemistry
The Beckman Center offers short term and long term fellowships and travel grants. They encourage applications from all researchers working on topics related to the history of science and technology with an emphasis on chemical matters, broadly construed.

CIES Fulbright Scholars Program
The core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program provides approximately 800 teaching and/or research grants to U.S. faculty and experienced professionals in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Grants are available in over 125 countries worldwide.

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service)
Funding opportunities include grants for research visits, visiting lectureships and professorships, seminars, conference funding and the Artists-in-Berlin program.

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships
Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.  About 18 fellowships are awarded annually.

The Humboldt Foundation
The Humboldt Foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from abroad and from Germany through a wide range of programs, grants and fellowships. 

John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation 
The Foundation funds the Guggenheim Fellowship Program.

The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies
The Kroc Institute encourages and supports research through highly competitive grants to scholars and students working on a wide range of international issues related to peace and justice.

Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, NJ)
The Institute funds residential fellowships in historical studies, mathematics, natural sciences and social sciences and programs in Women and Mathematics and Prospects in Theoretical Physics.

IREX (International Research & Exchanges Board) 
The Short-Term Travel Grants Program (STG) supports postdoctoral scholars and professionals to conduct independent research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.

National Geographic Society
The National Geographic Society awards grants for scientific field research and exploration through its Committee for Research and Exploration. All proposed projects must have both a geographical dimension and relevance to other scientific fields and be of broad scientific interest.  Applications are generally limited to the following disciplines: anthropology, archaeology, astronomy, biology, botany, geography, geology, oceanography, paleontology, and zoology.  In addition, the committee is emphasizing multidisciplinary projects that address environmental issues (e.g., loss of biodiversity and habitat, effects of human-population pressures).

National Institute of Health NRSA Senior Fellowship
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awards senior individual research training fellowships to experienced scientists who wish to make major changes in the direction of their research careers or who wish to broaden their scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities as independent investigators in research fields relevant to the missions of participating NIH Institutes and Centers.

Radcliffe Institute  
The Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program annually selects and supports 50 leading artists and scholars in all fields who have both exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishments.

Scialog Research CorporationAimed at producing breakthroughs in complex issues of global concern. Scialog provides catalytic funding to early career scientists engaged in high-risk research. The Cottrell Scholar Awards funds early career faculty scientists at U.S. research universities, who are committed to excellence in both undergraduate teaching and research. Cottrell College Science Awards jumpstart the research work of early career scientists at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions, helping them achieve lifelong, productive roles as scientist-educators.

Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Residencies
The Rockefeller Foundation funds residencies in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, music and fine arts at the Bellagio Center on Lake Como in northern Italy.

Simons Foundation
The Simons Foundation Division for Mathematics and the Physical Sciences invites applications for the Simons Fellows Programs in both Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. The Fellows Programs provide funds to faculty for up to a semester long research leave from classroom teaching and administrative obligations.

Sloan Research FellowshipsThe Sloan Research Fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise.  These two-year fellowships are awarded yearly to 126 researchers in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field.

Smithsonian Institution
The Smithsonian offers a wide variety of fellowships in all fields.
