Class of 2020
Dear Seniors and Families,
If the year 2020 taught us anything, it’s that personal connections matter. Your relationships with your friends, professors, mentors, and your alma mater can stay with you for a lifetime. At Southwestern, we continue to celebrate you, your connections, and your contributions to our community.
I am pleased to share that our faculty will confer to you your Southwestern degree in a formal Commencement Convocation, scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. This ceremony is solely for the Class of 2020. We hope that you and your family will join us for this special occasion.
The goal of education, particularly at Southwestern, is to transform lives — to help individuals learn how to think more imaginatively and wisely today so they are able to innovate and create artful solutions to the problems of tomorrow.
Graduates, as we approach this time of celebration, I encourage you to reflect on the moments that have transformed you as an individual, and I challenge you to fearlessly seek these moments for the rest of your lives. Remember that the relationships you have cultivated and the lessons you have learned at Southwestern will continue beyond the walls of our classrooms.
Congratulations on the completion of your degree from Southwestern University! Our community is very proud of you and what you accomplished during your time as a Southwestern student. Stay close to your classmates and mentors; become engaged with our strong alumni network; and, remember, you will always be a Southwestern University Pirate at heart.
