About Us

38% of Southwestern’s student population participates in some form of civic engagement. During the 2017-2018 academic year, 559 students spent nearly 13,500 hours engaging with the local community. The OCEL helps facilitate these opportunities so that they are mutually beneficial to the community and SU Student Learning.

    Dr. Brackmann completed her Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Georgia, where her research focused on the impact of decreased public funding on community engagement programs. She earned a Masters of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs with a concentration in service-learning from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Xavier University (OH).
